This is a surprising Spanish horror film with superb art direction, good acting and a very cool story.
Pablo Thevenet (the cult Spanish actor Paul Naschy who died only a few months ago) is an old washed up actor whose glory days are way behind him, He can't get hired for anything worthwhile, but one day, he is offered to play famous monsters and serial killers at a posh horror-themed club owned by the Devil himself. Slowly, he will take his roles a little bit too personally and fully act them out. His anger and resentment towards the world of movie making he sees as corrupt and artistically compromised, bubble up with hate.
This is a very beautifully filmed movie, with sumptuous sets and costumes, and beautiful lighting at times. An off-center retelling of the Faustian myth, with some interesting horror elements and decent gore when needed. This is a movie for people who like high class horror and want to see something done differently. - Laurent Hasson |
