ldh's review

While well done, this film and its sequel of sorts (Lost In Hong Kong) have an indescribable annoying quality that just got on my nerves. I know that the "annoying inept character who turns out to have a heart of gold and ends up being a good friend" is a stable of Chinese comedies, but here, for some reason, i just couldn't take it. Stephen Chow for example has mastered that type of characters, both in his writings and impersonations, but here, it just didn't work for me.

Overall though, the movies are quite well done with great art direction and cinematography, and competent direction and editing, and there are a couple of genuinely fun moments. But that's simply not enough to pull the entire movie up to a good grade.
