ldh's review

A methodical film that exposes its subject matter with rigor and detail. But short of a sociology/anthropology lesson, the film never seems to extend the realm of its characters beyond their academic work. There are hints as to the origins of most of this work, which fundamentally revolutionized how people thought about socially organized repression, and in particular, thinking about repression at scale in the USSR, and the active acquiescence of much of Europe in the Holocaust. The film is otherwise very well done, with clean period art direction, and god performances.
