Mind numbing and loud action fare that certainly displays a strong visual flair, inline with Zhang's track record, but fails miserably in providing something new to the monster genre. It has such great opportunities but i suspect the desire to make it a western-style blockbuster causes a series of missteps in the final product delivery.
