| King Kong (2005) made first place, but continues to disappoint greatly with only $21.3M this past weekend. The movie now sits at $108.6M and prospects of the movie making $200M are faint. The movie will not make the top 5 hits this year.
Chronicles Of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe, The (2005) however continues to do "well". With almost $20M more this weekend, the movie now sits at $153.2M. It won't be the massive $300M+ Disney had expected, but will break $250M before its run is over.
Harry Potter 4, The Goblet Of Fire (2005) is nearing the end of its run. During its 6th weekend in the theaters, the movie added another $3.9M and broke $260M. The movie will soon become the second highest grossing installment of the series after it passes Harry Potter 2, The Chamber Of Secrets (2002) which topped at $262M. The top grossing Potter film remains Harry Potter 1, The Sorcerer's Stone (2001) with $317.6M.
The top two new openers this weekend didn't perform. Fun With Dick And Jane (2005) opened with a disappointing $14.4M. For a Jim Carey movie, it's not good. Oanother opener this weekend also failed tomeet lowered expectations. Cheaper By The Dozen 2 (2005) opened with terrible reviews, and $9.3M. This is a far cray from the previous movie in 2003 which ended up making close to $140M.
Finally, two Oscar hopefulls barely registered. Memoirs Of A Geisha (2005) is getting mediocre reviews andonly pocketed $6.8M. Munich (2005) however is getting somewhat mixed reviews, many fantastic and some mediocre, but only managed $4.2M. Granted, that was with 532 theaters nationwide, but still, it was low.
