Underworld 2: Evolution (2006) won the weekend as expected, but with $26.9M, did so with much more dinero than analysts had predicted. However, and you have heard this a lot, with weak reviews, the movie will unlikely show good legs. The first one was a surprise hit with over $50M on a production budget of about $25M. The second installment however cost about $45M to make, so it will need to make a lot more money to warrant starting a third episode.

Hoodwinked! The True Story of Red Riding Hood (2006) continues to do great and and with less than 20% drop off from its first weekend, its performance is fantastic. With an estimated budget of around $15M, the movie is a hit!

Brokeback Mountain (2005) can also be qualified as a hit. Winning all those awards at the Golden Globes definitely made a difference. Now, with some Oscars likely in sight, the movie will try to get to the $100M maek. It now sits at just over $40M, so it still has some ways to go.

Chronicles Of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe, The (2005) continues to do respectably well and is probably a few weeks away from overtaking Harry Potter. Hostel (2005) added over $4M to its coffers and is slowly approaching the $50M mark. It's a definite success. Finally, King Kong (2005) is closing down with a final potential of about $220M. This is enough for it to place fifth in 2005's box office.
