| Madea's Family Reunion (2006) repeated its win from its opening last weekend. With an extra $12.6M, the movie is closing onto $50M fast and is already into big profit territory. The movie cost less than $10M to make, and you can be sure that Producer/Director/Writer/Actor Tyler Perry is working on his next Madea film based on his plays. This movie is very characteristic of movie business today, where hollywood blockbusters find it increasingly difficult to make money, and small independent films are raking it in. Mega film mogul George Lucas himself said so here, and he may know something as him and Steven Spielberg are largely credited for kicj starting the era of Blockbusters some 30 years ago.
16 Blocks (2006), the latest Bruce Willis vehicle is not performing well. With less than $12M during its opening weekend, and mediocre reviews, the film is not going to get very far. Ultraviolet (2006) also had a disappointing opening. The latest Milla Jovovich film barely managed $9M and with reviews calling it a derivative and lesser version of her previous ass-kickingmovies, it won't go vry far either.
But things are not all bad. Eight Below (2006) contiues to surprise with continuing great numbers. An additional $10.1M this weekend puts the movie's current tally at almost $60M and is considered a pretty good success. Pink Panther, The (2006) is also surprising by showing strong legs. With another $7M in its 4th weekend, the movie is closing in on the $70M milestone.
