Ice Age 2: The Meltdown (2006) didn't surprise anyone last weekend when it finished first. What surprised everyone however is how powerful the film was at the box office. With $68M, this is simply the best opening in quite a while and almost guarantees the film will get pretty darn close to the $200M mark. Reviews are decent so the chances for this film to be one of the top hits of the year are pretty high.

Inside Man (2006) continues to do very well and with an additional $15.8M, the movie now sits at $52.5M. I saw the movie and really liked it, so i strongly hope it will reach $100M. It defintiely deserves to.

ATL (2006) is a new film, and opened with a surprise. $11.6M may not seem a lot, but most analysts had the film opening with much lower numbers. Good reviews might give this film some legs and help it blow initial expectations that were around $20M. Slither (2006)however was not so lucky. With pretty good reviews, the film managed a meager $3.9M opening. That is really not good for a movie that was actually a lot of fun. Finally, the other bomb of the week was Basic Instinct 2 (2006). It was expected though, and $3.2M, there is really nothing left to do to save anything there.
