Apocalypto (2006) performed pretty much as expected with an opening weekend of $15M. That doesn't say much about its future prospects though. Reviews are rather good, but many "complain" about the excessive violence, so without the religious underpinning that made Passion Of The Christ, The (2004) such a success, the movie will not gather much wider appeal in spite of its supposedly amazing technical qualities. Mel Gibson  is quickly turning into a top horror/gore film maker.

Happy Feet (2006) finally stepped down from the pole position and with $12.9M this weekend, it now sits on top of $137.9M. The film still has a long career ahead of it and will get a boost from the coming holidays. $150M is guaranteed, but $200M is still very far away. Another holdover, Casino Royale (2006), continues to perform well and added $8.9M to its box office. With $129M already in the bank, it should still beat James Bond 20, Die Another Day (2002) which ended up with $160M and remains to this day the highest grossing Bond film ever.
